-
Pay your invoices. (We do have a grapevine and we use it!)
-
Ordering expedited records and not picking them up for two
weeks when we've stayed up all night and/or away from our families to get
it done for you.
-
Having secretaries or legal assistants order records and
then say that you didn't order it and refuse to pay for it.
-
Talking too fast after being asked to slow down.
-
Talking over other people after being told we can only
take one person at a time.
-
Telling the jurors that the court reporter won't mind
reading it back if they have ANY questions (The rules state they only get
readback if there's a dispute).
-
Contrary to popular belief, you're not the only record we
have pending.
-
Follow procedure when examining witnesses. Don't
call several witnesses and do direct on each one and then pass all three
witnesses for cross (minor prove-ups).
-
When reading depositions with one reader, be sure to say
"question" and "answer" while reading. Sometimes
we can't differentiate which is which. We also need the page and
line.
-
Don't go through the court reporter's desk in search of
exhibit stickers, etc. Please ask.
-
Do not try to have a conversation with us while we're
reporting another hearing. We cannot hear testimony and you at the
same time.
