Helpful Hints from the Reporters

  1. Exhibit numbers and exhibit lists should correspond.  Witness lists are helpful for spellings.

  2. Do not use dashes or ABC's in numbering exhibits. Use numbers only.  You run out of ABC's and we don't have lists set up to mark admissions that use dashes, i.e. 1-1, 1-2, etc.

  3. When using posters, please bring an 8x10 for the record.  We do not have storage space.

  4. When bringing Jury Charges on disk, bring it ready to print and give to the jury, i.e. no footers, case citations, style, etc.  It makes charge preparations much faster.  Include boilerplate instructions.

  5. Please don't speak with your back to the reporter.

  6. PLEASE PUT ALL TRANSCRIPT REQUESTS IN WRITING.  In the request, state exactly what you want, the date of the hearing and/or trial, cause number, and when you need it.

  7. Exhibits in binders are helpful, but not mandatory.  It's a time saver.

  8. Please don't hit us in the head with objects, pull our hair, shake us as you would a demonstration model, or lean over us when handing the witness materials.

  9. Do not hand the witness water by passing it over us and over the top of our personally-owned computer equipment.  The county does not pay for our equipment and maintenance, we do.

  10. If you need exhibits admitted in a prior hearing, please give us at least two (2) days advance notice so that we may obtain them from the exhibit coordinator.

  11. Please give us at least one (1) week notice, at a minimum, if you need daily copy. Preparations must be made to do this.

  12. If we're glaring at you, you probably need to slow down.

  13. Please give us an opportunity to mark an exhibit before you continue talking.  Likewise, please give us an opportunity to mark down when it's admitted.
